2. 49 English- Action Performed Only for Reward Is Inferior | Bhagavad Gita Shlok 2.49 in English
Shlok 2.49 [thoughtful] Shri Krishna says to Arjun—Actions performed only for rewards and personal benefit are far inferior to actions performed with wisdom and a balanced mind. Therefore, let intelligence, honesty, and the right purpose guide every decision. People who work only for rewards limit the true value of their actions. There is nothing wrong with wanting money, position, or appreciation. But when these become the only reasons for working, we may begin to compromise on quality, principles, and our larger responsibility. We can understand this through the life of E. Sreedharan, popularly known as India’s “Metro Man.” While leading extremely difficult projects such as the Konkan Railway and Delhi Metro, his focus was not merely on fame or personal gain. His purpose was clear—the work should be completed on time, public money should be used properly, and the system should serve people efficiently for many years. He worked at great speed but never ignored safety or quality. People therefore admired not only his achievements but also his honesty and discipline. [emphatic] When we work only for rewards, our thinking remains limited. When we work with wisdom and a larger purpose, our actions can become greater than ourselves. #BhagavadGita #GitaShlok #Shlok249 #GitaInEnglish #RightAction #Results #Wisdom #KarmaYoga #Krishna #Mahakavya BIMAL BANGAR
